Statistics Shows the Importance to Lose Weight

Worldwide there are over 1 billion people who are considered to be overweight and need to lose weight fast; out of this number at least 300 million are considered obese. Being overweight occurs when a person’s body weight is in excess compared to their height, and they have a body mass index greater than 25 kg/m2. A person becomes obese when their total body mass index exceeds 30 kg/m2.

The United States alone has a population of 300 million people with obesity affecting 33.8% of US adults and 17% children aged 2-19. In the United States weight loss has become a multi-billion dollar industry with almost 58 billion dollars a year being spent on diet products and services. This alarming rate in which obesity is growing can be attributed to society’s trend to consume faster and convenient, less expensive foods that save time in their busy lives. Families are now too busy to eat together making fast food, with its plethora of locations and easy drive through windows, the go to choice for eating meals.
